Lindsey + Benj: A Moody, Romantic Fall Wedding at the Bowery Hotel

The Bowery Hotel has a way of making you feel like you've stepped out of the city entirely — into something older, more atmospheric, and quietly cinematic. For Lindsey and Benj's November wedding, we leaned all the way into that feeling. Dark florals, a cascading overhead greenery installation, a flower-draped fireplace, and long candlelit tables created an evening that felt lush, intimate, and entirely its own — a fall celebration rooted in texture, depth, and drama.

About the Venue: The Bowery Hotel

Located on the corner of Bowery and Third Street in Manhattan's East Village, the Bowery Hotel is one of New York City's most distinctive boutique properties. Its event spaces feel lived-in and layered — exposed brick walls, antique Flemish tapestries, ornate iron chandeliers, and a now-iconic green-tiled fireplace flanked by stacked firewood that gives the room the atmosphere of a centuries-old European hall.

It's a venue that rewards florals designed to feel grown and gathered rather than arranged — and for a moody November wedding, there's nowhere better in New York City to make that vision come to life.

Floral Design Approach

For this wedding, we built a design that moved between the dramatic and the intimate — large-scale installations above and at the fireplace, and quieter bud vase compositions at table level. The palette was rooted in fall's darkest register: deep burgundy, near-black chocolate cosmos, burnt orange, coral, dusty blush, and warm reds, all threaded through with seasonal foliage in copper, mahogany, and forest green.

The guiding idea was abundance without excess — florals that felt like they had spilled naturally into the space, growing up the fireplace and tumbling down from the ceiling, rather than placed into it.

The Ceremony: Fireplace Installation

The ceremony took place in front of the Bowery Hotel's iconic green-tiled fireplace, one of our favorite canvases. A full garden-style installation swept from the hearth outward across the floor on both sides, with blooms climbing the tile surround and cascading down toward the ground. Dahlias in coral, red, and peach mixed with lisianthus, fern, eucalyptus, and burgundy oak leaf foliage to create a scene that felt like late autumn itself had invaded the hotel.

The effect was immersive and organic — as if the flowers had been growing there all along, and the ceremony simply found them.

Bridal Party Florals

Lindsey envisioned a very specific bouquet, which I loved — a tightly composed gathering of near-black chocolate cosmos, finished with a trailing crimson ribbon. Against her voluminous white gown, it was a striking, intentional contrast: pure and dark, soft and moody all at once.

The bridesmaids carried warm fall counterparts — red and coral dahlias, apricot ‘falda’ lisianthus, burgundy foliage, and dried textural elements — each bouquet full of movement and autumn depth. Against their black velvet gowns, the florals glowed.

Reception Atmosphere

At the reception, long banquet tables ran the length of the room, lined with custom-dyed pale peach beeswax and Creative Candles’ ‘Mauvelous’ wisteria-toned tapers in brass candlesticks and scattered with low bud vase arrangements in dark ceramic vessels — individual blooms and small clusters in the same fall palette, creating a sense of intimacy across the full length of the table.

Overhead, large-scale greenery ‘chandeliers’ hung suspended from the ceiling beams — a dense, trailing cloud of eucalyptus, fern, palm, and seasonal foliage, with small hanging protea woven in for a whimsical note. It pulled the eye upward and made the brick-walled room feel like a garden under a canopy, warm and enclosed against the November night.

Sustainable Floral Practices

As always, the florals for this event were locally sourced, seasonal where possible, and foam-free. November is one of our favorite times to design — the season gives us permission to go dark, textural, and foliage-forward, leaning on what's naturally abundant rather than forcing blooms out of season. The dahlias, foliage, and branches throughout this wedding came from our network of regional growers, and the full installations were broken down and composted after the event. Beauty can be abundant while still being conscious — and this evening is a beautiful example of that.
