The approach

A farmer turned
wedding and event florist

Molly Oliver Flowers was founded in Brooklyn in 2011 — not out of a traditional florist background, but following years of training in sustainable agriculture and organic farming. That origin shapes everything about how Molly approaches wedding and event floral design.

Molly has always carefully sourced seasonal flowers from local farmers — even in the coldest months of the year — introducing clients year after year to unique varieties that help conjure a unique mood and special sense of time and place. "We've built strong relationships with our regional farmers. We love helping our clients achieve their vision, and to find connection and meaning in their wedding and event flowers — sometimes through a personal familiar memory or family member who grew a particular flower; sometimes through the color, texture, mood or vibe of a particular bloom. The last thing we want to do is recreate an aesthetic seen over and over on Pinterest. Event and wedding flowers are an investment, and we take the time and lean on our expertise in producing an end result that is deeply felt and remembered."

"I spoke to several florists in New York for our Brooklyn wedding. I genuinely believe we couldn't have made a better choice. Everything was composted or put in paper cones for guests at the end of the night."

— Helene Yorke, Brooklyn Wedding 2021

Events we design

Weddings, elopements &
all the celebrations in between

Fifteen years of Brooklyn and NYC events — from intimate City Hall elopements to full multi-day wedding weekends across a wide range of venues.

💍
Weddings

Full-service wedding floral design: ceremony installations, reception centerpieces, bridal bouquets, boutonnieres, cocktail hour, welcome arrangements, and full breakdown with composting. We handle every floral element so you don't have to coordinate between vendors.

🌿
Elopements & intimate ceremonies

Not every wedding needs a grand installation. We design for elopements, micro-weddings, and intimate celebrations with the same care and sourcing standards as a full wedding — a single extraordinary bridal bouquet, a small ceremony arch, a handful of arrangements for a private dinner.

Events & corporate

Rehearsal dinners, engagement parties, milestone birthdays, retirement parties, corporate events, brand activations, bar/bat mitzvahs, and non-wedding celebrations. We bring the same locally sourced, seasonally grounded aesthetic to events of any kind — with the sustainable practices that define everything we do.

What sustainable wedding floristry actually means

Why locally grown matters
for your wedding flowers

Most wedding florists don't tell you where the flowers come from

80% of flowers sold in the US are imported from overseas — grown with synthetic pesticides in Ecuador, Colombia, or the Netherlands, then refrigerated and air-freighted thousands of miles. Most wedding florists source from the same wholesale market as everyone else, which means your centerpieces are likely the same flowers as your neighbor's office lobby.

We've worked differently since 2011. Every stem for every wedding comes from farms within 200 miles of NYC — most in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. Cut days before your wedding, not weeks before. That's why our floral design stands out — locally grown blooms are vibrant and pulsing with life and movement.

  • Zero floral foam — ever. We use chicken wire, floral frogs, and organic materials for support instead, like willow branches
  • Pesticide-free flowers from farms we know personally
  • 100% compostable/recyclable wrapping and packaging materials
  • All organic waste composted post-event at Brooklyn Grange rooftop farm
  • Vessels rented or returned — not single-use
For eco-conscious couples, this is the difference that matters

When you work with us, your event or wedding flowers are grown on local farms by farmers Molly knows by name. They're not stored in overseas cold chains. They're not sprayed with synthetic chemicals. And when your event ends, the organic material doesn't go to landfill — it becomes compost for food crops at a Brooklyn rooftop farm half a mile from our studio.

For couples who care about where things come from, Molly Oliver Flowers is the most credible sustainable wedding florist in NYC. Not by marketing, but by practice — fifteen years of it.

"The process was just as great as the end product. Molly brought me along in the journey. The flower preview session ahead of our wedding was such a unique opportunity, and Molly invested a lot of extra energy to get familiar with our non-traditional reception venue, given it was her first time working an event there."

— Erica, March 2026

"Working with Molly and her team was a wonderful experience. Molly was so helpful and communicative throughout, and really helped turn our occasionally scattered thoughts into a gorgeous floral palette and table settings. How it works

From first inquiry
to the last petal

01
Inquire with your date

Fill out our event inquiry form with your date, venue, rough guest count, and a sense of your aesthetic. We'll respond within a few days to confirm availability, provide pricing expectations, and a preview of what's in season at the time of your event.

02
Consultation & vision

We meet — on a call or over Zoom — to talk through your priorities, vision, and to look at flower varieties and inspiration. We'll share what the farms will likely have in bloom for your season and discuss what arrangements will work best for your specific venue and goals.

03
Proposal & refinement

We send a detailed proposal with itemized floral pricing, and a starter mood board with imagery of the aesthetic we're working toward. This is our starting point and launch pad. Over the coming weeks and months, we'll meet for one subsequent call and an in-person mock-up or sample meeting, working collaboratively to give your floral selections their unique look and feel.

04
Your wedding day

We arrive first and leave last. All setup, styling, and sustainable breakdown handled by our team. Post-event, all organic material is composted and remaining arrangements are bunched as bouquets for you and your guests. Nothing goes to landfill.

Common questions

Wedding florist FAQ

Where are you based and what areas do you serve?

We're based in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, and have been since 2011. We work across all five boroughs, with most of our events and weddings in Manhattan and Brooklyn — Wave Hill, New York Botanical Garden, The New York Athletic Club, The Rainbow Room, Brooklyn Winery, Brooklyn Grange, Brooklyn Botanic Garden, Prospect Park Boathouse, The River Cafe, The Wythe Hotel, Marlowe Events, The Green Building, and dozens of restaurants and private venues — as well as upstate New York and New Jersey.

How much does wedding floristry with Molly Oliver Flowers cost?

Wedding floral budgets vary significantly based on guest count, venue size, number of arrangements, and the flowers in season for your date. We work with a wide range of budgets — from intimate gatherings of 20 guests to nonprofit galas with 600. The best way to understand what's possible is to submit an inquiry with your date and we'll share honest guidance.

What does "sustainable wedding florist" actually mean — and is it just a marketing term?

For most florists, it's unfortunately marketing. At Molly Oliver Flowers, sustainability has been our primary operating value since 2011. Every stem we source comes from farms within 200 miles of NYC, where the flowers are grown with utmost care for the surrounding ecosystem. We've never used synthetic floral foam — its carcinogenic properties are well documented, and the health of our team, clients, and the environment is top priority. All organic waste is composted at Brooklyn Grange Rooftop Farm, half a mile from our studio. We also invest in Terracycle bins each year so non-recyclable waste can be repurposed. All floral packaging is 100% compostable and recyclable. Read our full sustainability practices →

Can I choose specific flowers for my wedding?

Yes, within the constraints of what's genuinely in season for your date. We'll look at what's at peak for your season and what's possible locally — which usually opens up varieties you hadn't considered that are more beautiful than the standard options. If there are flowers that are important for conjuring a particular mood, or are significant to your family, we're always happy to incorporate those. We design around what's actually alive and thriving.

Do you do elopements and small weddings, or only large events?

We design for all sizes of events — from a City Hall elopement with a single extraordinary bridal bouquet to full multi-day wedding weekends. Intimate weddings and elopements get the same sourcing standards and design attention as larger events. Please share your scale in your inquiry and we'll discuss what works for your venue and budget.

Do you use floral foam?

Never. Floral foam is a petroleum-based product that sheds microplastics and never biodegrades. We use chicken wire, floral frogs, willow, and other reusable mechanics for all structural work. It requires more skill and care, but it's the right way to do it — and it's what we've done since day one.

What happens to the flowers after our event?

We offer a complimentary service of bunching flowers and arrangements for you and your guests to take home at the end of the evening. All remaining organic material is fully composted at Brooklyn Grange Rooftop Farm. Because our flowers are pesticide-free, the compost is clean enough for use on a sustainably managed farm. It's one of the things that distinguishes truly sustainable floristry from conventional practice.

How far in advance should I inquire?

For peak season (May through October), we recommend inquiring 9–12 months in advance, as popular dates fill early. For off-peak dates or smaller events, 3–6 months is often sufficient. If your date is sooner than that, reach out anyway — we'll be happy to share our availability. Inquire here →
